About Paladin Defensive Systems

What is Paladin

Paladin was not created from a desire to invent something new; rather, it emerged from decades of learning under extraordinary instructors, studying multiple systems, and understanding that every great teacher leaves behind a piece of the puzzle. Instead of abandoning tradition, Paladin embraces it, standing on the shoulders of those who came before and honoring their knowledge. Through experience, pressure, and practical application, it has refined essential elements like cadence training, mobility strategies, and self-defense techniques. Every lesson learned, every seminar attended, every round trained, and every instructor respected has become another stone in the foundation of Paladin. It is not about claiming to have all the answers; it is about carrying forward the best of what has been passed down, testing those ideas honestly, including effective domination tactics, and ensuring that valuable insights are left for the next generation.

Our Classes

We offer a range of classes for students of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Our classes incorporate essential self defense techniques along with effective mobility strategies, cadence training, and domination tactics to ensure a fun, challenging, and effective learning experience, all in a safe and supportive environment.

What is Paladin?

Paladin Defensive Systems

A Reality-Based Approach to Personal Defense

Paladin Defensive Systems was not created to invent another martial art.

It was developed from more than 35 years of training, teaching, pressure testing, and learning from exceptional martial artists across numerous disciplines.

The foundation of Paladin comes from Muay Thai, Filipino Martial Arts, Panantukan, Jeet Kune Do/Jun Fan, Silat, Western Boxing, Savate, clinch fighting, grappling, and other combat systems. Each has contributed principles, strategies, and methods that have proven valuable.

Paladin brings those lessons together with one purpose:

To give people a practical, adaptable system for dealing with real violence.

We respect the traditions and instructors who gave us this knowledge. Paladin stands on their shoulders rather than attempting to replace them.

But respecting tradition does not mean accepting everything without question.

Techniques must function under pressure. Concepts must have a purpose. Training must prepare the student to recognize a threat, make decisions, take decisive action when necessary, and adapt when the situation changes.

That philosophy has shaped the five core elements of Paladin.

MOBILITY

Position before technique.

Mobility is more than simply moving your feet. Paladin teaches students to use angles, distance, positioning, and environmental awareness to make themselves harder to attack while placing an aggressor at a disadvantage.

Our mobility strategies emphasize:

- Angular and diamond footwork
- Range management
- Evasion and exit strategies
- Positional awareness
- Centerline control
- Fluid transitions between ranges

The objective is simple: don't remain where your opponent is strongest.

DOMINATION

When physical action becomes necessary, Paladin emphasizes taking control of the encounter rather than simply trading techniques with an attacker.

Domination does not mean uncontrolled aggression. It means using position, pressure, structure, timing, and forward intent to disrupt the attacker's ability to continue functioning effectively.

Students learn to recognize when the situation requires movement, escape, control, or decisive counter-offensive action.

The goal is to force the aggressor to react to you instead of allowing you to continually react to them.

CADENCE

Fights do not happen at a predictable rhythm.

People attack, hesitate, accelerate, freeze, change direction, and attack again.

Paladin's Cadence Training develops the ability to recognize and manipulate those rhythms.

Students learn:

- Rhythm disruption
- Broken timing
- Beat manipulation
- Tactical pauses
- Feints and false cues
- Changes in timing and intensity

Changing cadence disrupts an opponent's expectations and forces their brain to continually reassess what is happening.

That hesitation creates opportunity.

TEMPO

Cadence changes the rhythm.

Tempo controls the pace.

Paladin teaches students how to accelerate, decelerate, pause, explode, and maintain pressure when appropriate.

Tempo training develops the ability to shift rapidly between calm observation and decisive action.

The student learns not merely to survive the pace of an encounter, but whenever possible, to dictate it.

HONOR

The ability to hurt another person carries responsibility.

For that reason, Honor is not separate from the Paladin system—it is part of it.

Students are expected to demonstrate:

- Discipline
- Respect
- Accountability
- Technical integrity
- Control
- Responsibility toward training partners
- Appropriate use of force

We train people to become more capable, but capability without judgment is not the goal.

A Paladin should possess both.

PRESSURE TESTED. ADAPTABLE. PRACTICAL.

Paladin is not built around memorizing hundreds of techniques for hundreds of possible attacks.

Real violence is too unpredictable for that.

Instead, we develop principles, attributes, and reliable responses that can function across many different situations.

Students learn to move, recognize patterns, protect themselves, disrupt an attacker's structure and decision-making process, control position, and apply the appropriate level of force for the circumstances.

Everything is trained with one question in mind:

Will this still work when the other person isn't cooperating?

If the answer is no, we need to examine why we're training it.

STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

Paladin exists because generations of instructors were willing to share their knowledge.

Every instructor, training partner, seminar, round of sparring, mistake, success, and lesson learned contributed another piece to the system.

We don't claim to have invented fighting.

We don't claim to have all the answers.

Our responsibility is to preserve what works, test it honestly, continue learning, and pass that knowledge forward.

That is Paladin Defensive Systems.

Respect the past.
Pressure-test the present.
Prepare for what comes next.
